六疣蛛总科（Hexathelidae）[1] 下有两个科，[2] 六疣蛛科与长尾蛛科下的蜘蛛一起被称作“漏斗网蜘蛛”（funnel-webs），具有夜行性，而其中某些种的毒液可以威胁到人类生命，另一科的称为澳大利亚漏斗网蜘蛛（英文名：Australian funnel-web spiders，科名：Atracidae）。
实际上在1980年前因为六疣蛛科生物只是后纺器和一些其他特征与长尾蛛科微微不同而被一直当做后者的亚科。[3]
分布[编辑]
其下大多数生物分布于澳大利亚、新西兰和亚洲。一个种发现于地中海地区，两个种发现于南美洲，两个种现存于非洲中部。
六疣蛛科的生物主要生活在洞穴中，包括地穴和树洞。他们会在洞穴里织造蛛网以捕捉猎物，此外也常常把洞穴挖在人类的住所中这种蜘蛛多发现于雨林里。[4][5]
