故事發生在法國巴黎，律師安妮與丈夫皮埃爾，以及兩個養女共同生活。然而不久之後，皮埃爾與前妻所生的17歲兒子西奧搬進來住，讓安妮對西奧頓生情愫，和諧生活就次打破，安妮也因此賭上職業生涯及家庭[3][4]。

《去年夏天》是導演嘉芙蓮·布雷亞的第15部長片，其上一部電影是十年前的自傳劇情片《趁人之危（英語：Abuse of Weakness）》[5]。電影翻拍自2019年丹麥電影《紅心女王（英語：Queen of Hearts (2019 film)）》[1]。
